Woodbury County, Iowa — Effective tomorrow, April 16th 2025 at 8:00 a.m., the State Fire Marshall will declare a burn ban for the following fire districts within Woodbury County:
ANTHON, CORRECTIONVILLE, CUSHING, DANBURY, LAWTON, MOVILLE, OTO, PIERSON, SALIX, SERGEANT BLUFF, AND SLOAN.
Residents in these district areas of Woodbury County are prohibited from burning according to Iowa code. Although some districts extend beyond the borders of Woodbury County, this ban only applies to the portions of those districts within Woodbury County, unless otherwise stated by neighboring counties. Upon investigation, it was determined by the State Fire Marshall that conditions in these areas are such that burning constitutes a danger to life or property. This ban will remain in effect until the fire departments in these areas notify the Iowa Fire Marshall that conditions have improved and are no longer a threat.
According to Iowa code (100.42), a resident found in violation of this ban could be charged with a simple misdemeanor.
Elevated fire danger conditions are expected to continue as a combination of mild temperatures, low humidity, and breezy winds persist, causing fires to spread rapidly.
Fire Safety Tips:
• Do not carelessly discard lit cigarettes.
• Use caution with outdoor and farm equipment.
• Avoid using your outdoor grill on dry grass.
• Report fires early.
