PUBLIC HEARING – May 5, 2026
Planning & Zoning Commission Members present: Stacy Collins, Kay Scott, Denny Brouillette, Jesse Duerkesen, Trisha Gries was absent. Others present: Kevin Nelson, Mayor of Salix, Ashley Mareau, City Clerk, Wade Brown, Salix Fire & Rescue
Planning & Zoning Chairperson, Stacy Collins opened the Public Hearing at 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, reviewing the Application for Zoning Change submitted by Salix Fire & Rescue
The Salix Fire & Rescue would like to change the current zone for the property they purchased, from Low Density Residential (R-1) to Central Business (CB). Lots 7, 8, & 9, all in Block 2, City of Salix, Woodbury County, Iowa. (314 Talbot St.)
• Brouillete motioned to open the Public Hearing, seconded by Scott, all ayes, Public Hearing opened 6:02pm.
• Brown, from the Salix Fire & Rescue, spoke of setbacks, sidewalk needs, and grading height requirements. Fire & Rescue would prefer 6 inches to 12 inches maximum for grading height, and zero setbacks to build their building with minimum slope. Mareau said she would review Zoning Ordinances and see what was required.
• No other public questions or comments were given or received.
• Duerksen motioned to close Public Hearing, Scott seconded, all ayes, public hearing closed at 6:17pm.
A motion was made by Duerksen, seconded by Scott, to recommend for the Salix City Council to approve the application for Zoning Change made by Salix Fire & Rescue. Roll call vote: Collins (aye), Scott (aye), Brouillette (aye), Duerksen (aye), Gries (absent). All ayes, motion carried.
Duerksen motioned to adjourn. Seconded by Brouillette. All ayes, motioned carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:25pm
