SALIX COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING – May 27, 2026
Mayor Nelson opened the Special Meeting of the Salix City Council at 6:00pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Council members present: Gene Monk, Brenda Smith-Hansen, Emily Clayton, Nick Black was absent, Denise Burkhart was absent.
Others present: Ashley Mareau, Woodbury County Sheriff.
• Mayor Nelson allowed the public to speak during the Public Forum. Four residents spoke of their concerns over the annexed land north of town, and their lack of answers.
• Mayor Nelson opened the public hearing on the proposed FY27 budget. No citizens voiced an opinion for or against the proposal. No oral or written comments were received after the required notice was posted and published in the Sgt. Bluff Advocate.
• Smith-Hanen motioned to close the public hearing, seconded by Clayton. All ayes, motion carried. Mayor Nelson declared the public hearing closed.
• Resolution 2026-10 Adopting FY27 Budget was approved on motion from Clayton and seconded by Monk. Roll call vote: Monk (aye), Black (absent), Burkhart (absent), Smith-Hansen (aye), Clayton (aye). Resolution 2026-10 passed and approved.
• Resolution 2026-11 Employee wages for new P.T. Maintenance was approved on motion by Monk and seconded by Clayton. Roll call vote: Monk (aye), Black (absent), Burkhart (absent), Smith-Hansen (aye), Clayton (aye). Resolution 2026-11 also passed and approved.
Clayton motioned to adjourn the public hearing meeting at 6:14pm. Smith-Hansen seconded.
