4. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS:
4.aDiscussion on Recommendation from Committee to fill Vacant City Council Position via Appointment
Andrea Johnson stated that members of the Committee reached out to numerous potential candidates to determine interest in being considered for the Council vacancy. The applicant being considered for Council approval has been reviewed by the Committee and is recommended for appointment.
Danny Christoffers stated that the applicant is Ryan Panowicz, he has been a resident of Sergeant Bluff for 13 years, his current employer is Wesco Distribution and he works in
sales.
The questions on the application and responses were as follows:
Q: Please give a brief statement on why you would live to serve on City Council:
A: To help the city fill a temporary vacancy; I would like to see this city flourish moving forward.
Q: Please detail any involvement in community activities and projects:
A: My wife and I Have been involved with our two kids' current and past activities like football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer.
Q: What is your stance on the current and future growth of the community?
A: I think a town should be looking for ways to grow in an ever-changing current environment and it should try to be proactive in building a tax base to support current and future needs.
Q: Do you have any changes you would like to see in the community?
A: I would like to continue developing our identity for Sergeant Bluff that keeps residents here in our town for our unique experiences and attractions, rather than traveling elsewhere.
Jon Winkel stated that staff has previously worked with Ryan. Ryan has also worked with municipalities in the area and has financial experience.
Danny stated that he required Notice of Intent to Fill the Vacancy was published and posted within the time frame required by Iowa Code.
4.bMotion and Vote to Appoint for the Vacant Council Position and Direct the City Clerk to Post the Required Notice of Appointment
Motion by Mark Reinders, seconded by Ron Hanson to Appoint Ryan Panowicz to the Vacant City Council Position and Direct the City Clerk to Post the Required Notice of Appointment.
Motion Carried. [Unanimous]

Motion by Kirk Moriarty, seconded by Andrea Johnson to Adjourn at 5:41 pm. Motion Carried. [Unanimous]
