Iowa Chamber Alliance Launches National Civics Bee

Posted

(SBA) -  The Iowa Chamber Alliance proudly announces the launch of the 2024 National Civics Bee, an initiative aimed at encouraging more young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Organized in partnership with The Civic Trust(r) of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the competition in Des Moines will inspire middle schoolers to become better informed about American democracy, to engage respectfully and constructively in the community, and to build greater trust in others and institutions.

The Iowa Chamber Alliance will host this event on August 7th at the World Food Prize Foundation. Finalists from local competitions across Iowa will be invited to take part in the state-level competition. Students will participate in a live quiz event and answer questions from judges to test their civic knowledge. The finalists and top winners will receive various prizes, including $1,000 cash for the first-place student. The top winner will also be invited to advance to the national round of the competition in Washington, D.C

"Engaging young Americans in civic education is crucial for the future of our democracy. The Iowa Civics Bee, part of the National Civics Bee initiative, is more than just a competition-it's a catalyst for inspiring middle schoolers from across Iowa to become active, informed citizens. The Ames Regional Economic Alliance, as a member of the Iowa Chamber Alliance, is proud to be an active participant and sponsor of this important program." - Dan Culhane, Iowa Chamber Alliance Board Chair and President and CEO of the Ames Regional Economic Alliance.
