Keeping sidewalks clear from snow

Posted

(SBA) - With the recent snow and ice storm on Dec. 13th, residents are encouraged to keep their sidewalks cleared. According to the Sergeant Bluff City Ordinance (136.03) REMOVAL OF SNOW, ICE, AND ACCUMULATIONS, It is the responsibility of the abutting property owners to remove snow, ice, and accumulations promptly from the entire sidewalk. If a property owner does not remove snow, ice, or accumulations within a reasonable time, but in no case no more than 24 hours after the snow or ice ceases to fall or accumulate, the City may do so and assess the costs against the property owner for collection in the same manner as a property tax. The Council may establish a schedule for calculating costs by resolution. (Code of Iowa, Sec. 364.12[2b & e])

Sergeant Bluff residents are reminded that City Ordinance (135.12) prohibits the pushing, dumping or throwing of snow from private property, sidewalks, or driveway onto the street. Doing so may prevent the clear passage of vehicles or create a hazardous condition.
