The Silver Circle honor is for individuals with 25+ years in the industry who have made a significant contribution to television well above and beyond that required by their job. That contribution can be in service to the industry, to NATAS, to the community, or to people training for a career in the field. Nominees answer to the highest standards of integrity and honor in all aspects of their personal and professional lives.

Ron's interest in broadcasting began in news. His first job was a part-time summer position at KAYL Radio in his hometown of Storm Lake, anchoring sports and weather, which eventually led to doing the news. While in college, Ron was news editor of the campus newspaper, worked at KWIT radio, and started an internship at KTIV all in the same year.

The KTIV internship turned into a part-time job as an editor in reporter. He quickly moved to a position of full-time reporter after his college graduation. Shortly after he began doing weekend weather. His interest in weather forecasting grew and he took the morning weather position at KTIV. In 1996,  Ron became the Chief Meteorologist at KTIV.

"We are so proud of Ron's accomplishments and this recognition of his career," said KTIV Vice President and General Manager, Bridget Breen. "Ron's dedication to our viewers and leadership during severe weather are exceptional. Siouxland viewers have come to depend on his expert forecasting, and he has been an amazing friend and colleague to all of us here at KTIV. He is truly deserving of this honor."
