Local Libraries Urge Residents to Advocate for Continued Funding

Posted

(SBA) - The Sergeant Bluff and Sloan Public Libraries are calling on area residents to take action in response to potential federal funding cuts that could significantly impact local library services. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), a crucial source of funding for libraries across Iowa, is at risk of being defunded by the federal government.

The loss of IMLS funding would have a profound effect on the services provided by Iowa’s libraries, including those in Sergeant Bluff and Sloan. To raise awareness and encourage community involvement, both libraries are distributing flyers with detailed information about the potential impacts of these cuts.

Residents are urged to contact their state senators and representatives to express their support for continued library funding. The Sloan Public Library is offering resources to assist in this effort, including contact information for local legislators and a sample letter that residents can use to communicate their concerns.

For more information and to pick up a flyer or sample letter, visit the Sgt. Bluff or Sloan Public Library. Your voice can make a difference in ensuring that our libraries continue to serve the community effectively.
