(SBA) - The City of Sergeant Bluff has unveiled a new playground at the Recreation Complex, marking a significant upgrade to the community’s outdoor amenities. The project replaces the previous playground, which was installed in 2004 and had reached the end of its life expectancy.
“Playgrounds typically last around 20 years, and ours was showing signs of wear and tear,” said Tyler Tweet, Director of Parks and Recreation. “It was time for a replacement that better serves our community.”
The newly installed playground features an expanded layout and is fully ADA-compliant, ensuring accessibility for children of all abilities. While the setup follows a standard playground design, it was carefully planned to accommodate existing features at the complex, including the disc golf course path near the first hole.
Play-Pro Recreation served as the contractor for the project, which came at an approximate cost of $114,000. The city secured grant funding to help offset expenses.
“This is phase one of the playground improvements,” Tweet added. “Next year, we hope to replace the current wood fiber flooring with a poured rubberized surface to further enhance ADA compliance.”
Although the playground is now complete, final site cleanup and landscaping around the perimeter are still underway. At this time, no formal dedication ceremony is planned.
The new playground reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to improving recreational spaces for residents and visitors alike. Additional enhancements to the Recreation Complex may be considered in future phases.
