(SBA) - The Sergeant Bluff Community Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of the Light Tunnel Project, a transformative new landmark at the Sergeant Bluff Recreation Complex. Born from community enthusiasm for an iconic local feature, this project will feature a series of 12 steel arches equipped with LED lights that can change colors to highlight special events and awareness months.

Located in the high-traffic area of the Recreation Complex, the Light Tunnel will be constructed over the existing walkway in the northwest section of the park, becoming a focal point for both residents and visitors. Its strategic placement ensures prominent visibility from Lewis Blvd./Old Hwy 75, allowing passersby to appreciate this vibrant addition that reinforces community spirit and engagement.

The project gained tremendous support following a successful temporary light display during RAGBRAI, complemented by significant contributions from Port Neal Welding, where Dan Lee provided a scale model and planning assistance. Initial pledges of more than $40,000 from local businesses have jumpstarted the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. The total budget for the project is projected at $150,000, with a goal to raise $80,000 through sponsorships, donations, and community events, alongside grant applications.

"We are incredibly heartened and honored by the tremendous support we received for this project, even before its announcement. We would especially like to thank Port Neal Welding and Dan Lee, who have contributed significantly to this effort and are truly excited about the project,” shared Dr. Erin Edlund, president of the Sergeant Bluff Community Foundation. “As a Foundation, we believe that the early momentum we've gained in fundraising is a great sign that others recognize the value of this initiative in enhancing our community with a visually beautiful and memorable landmark. While we still have a significant amount of fundraising ahead, our board is committed to pursuing grants, cash gifts, and in-kind donations to bring this project to fruition."

It is important to note that the Sergeant Bluff Community Foundation operates independently of the city and relies solely on funds raised through community initiatives—no city tax dollars are allocated for this project. The start of construction and completion of the Light Tunnel Project depends on reaching the full funding target. As an affiliate of the Siouxland Community Foundation, all gifts made by individuals, families, or businesses are tax-deductible as permitted by law. Donations can be made via checks payable to the Siouxland Community Foundation or online at Siouxland Community Foundation. Contributions of $500 or more will be recognized on a commemorative plaque to be placed near the project upon its completion.

The Sergeant Bluff Community Foundation is committed to enhancing our community for generations to come. We invite all residents and local businesses to join us in making the Light Tunnel Project a reality.
