Policy Matters

Posted

(SBA) - California is a sad commentary on how bad policy has serious consequences for the the local communities, the state, as well as the nation. We have all watched the devastation from the Pacific Palisades fire as well as other fires with sadness for the residents. Their losses are catastrophic. How could this happen? Democratic control of California for decades has finally come home to roost! Should the rest of the nation be required to bail out a state that continues to follow bad policies that create disaster year after year of forest fires devastating communities? Is it fair for the rest of America to shoulder the expense for people who continue to vote in Democratic leadership that follow crazy, nonsense policies?

I have no doubt that Governor Newsom and the California legislature have been given commonsense solutions to these yearly fires, but they have been ignored. President Donald Trump in 2019 gave Governor Newsom practical forestation advice but it was ignored and here we are again. He has chosen to follow false climate control ideology, vast regulation regarding water control, closing reservoirs, and the protection of delta smelt, instead of protecting human life, city infrastructure and housing of its citizens.

Democratic leadership in California has demonstrated that they are incompetent in the face of a crisis. There has been no planning in advance for an event that happens several times a year. Apparently, merit is not a priority for Californian voters in elections at every level of government. When will they wake up to the reality that progressive policies fail every time they are tried?

Watching the devastation of Los Angeles County is heart wrenching. Yet, their problems are just beginning. When it comes to rebuilding, the residents will experience the next shoe to drop, which is the cumbersome regulations that will take years to clear and get the permits to rebuild.

As sympathetic as we are for the loss these families have experienced, the rest of the country can ill afford to subsidize the incompetency and illogical ideology that governs California.

The illogical regulations have caused the rapid movement of insurance companies out of California. Too many of their residents have no homeowners or fire insurance.

We have not seen the serious health implications because of these devastating fires. These illnesses may not show up for a few years, but they will be significant.

My hope is that President Trump requires major changes in the laws governing forestry, overregulation of water policy, and overregulation in rebuilding in a timely fashion. I hope that money will not automatically flow to Californians until a real change in policy takes place. Americans have been subsidizing bad policy for far too long. Only Trump and the Republican Congress can right this ship by controlling the money supply to California and other Democratic states, hopefully promoting this kind of change necessary to survive. Without controlling the money supply, California legislators, city and county officials and the Governor will not be motivated to make massive changes to their governance.
